Bruce, a Norwegian spruce, was adopted in December 2022 as our potted Christmas tree. When I asked the nursery whether I could plant him in the spring, they said it was impossible. The tree will not survive. But I get attached to living things and I was not going to let that happen. I covered his base with ice cubes, spoke encouraging words, and talked to him about freedom in the vast forest surrounding the bunkie. It was all going so well until a few weeks ago when Bruce appeared to have experienced severe shock. Why was I distraught? How could I possibly get attached to a tree? Apparently it is common and normal to get attached to plants. They bring us joy, a sense of calm, and well-being. I have hope that Bruce will pull through after I doused him with cayenne, dish soap and vinegar to kill any bug infestation. Please send good energy to support his recovery!

Hurting Bruce.
